alert earnings focusing forward fourth looking moved people rather technology
Technology has done well, not necessarily because of the crash, but because it has moved up the alert that the market's concentrating on a 2002 recovery. Rather than focusing on the earnings that are going to come out in the fourth quarter, people are looking forward rather than near-term.
beyond bias five move next percent question resistance three
The next three percent move for the S&P could be up, and that would take us to important resistance levels. The question is what is the bias beyond that, what is the next five percent for the market? That's not clear.
economy economy-and-economics fed move psychology selling tremendous until
The psychology is just not there for the economy to make any substantial move until we get through the Fed meeting. There's really no selling pressure, it's just tremendous volatility.
belief certainly insane interest move rate severe
There's a lot of pre-Fed buying. There's this insane belief that the Fed's going to move more than a half-point and that's what's powering the Dow, because you have a lot of cyclicality in that index and they are certainly beneficiaries of any severe interest rate cut.

beginning continue few likely movement seen since weeks
I think the movement we've seen since the beginning of the year, with a few weeks up, a few weeks down, is likely to continue at least through the end of the quarter.
companies cost defensive economy economy-and-economics higher impediment interest move rates seeing technology
Higher interest rates are an impediment to companies where cost is important and that's Old Economy stocks, ... What we are seeing is a defensive move into technology stocks.
continue hard heading market move periods rates reason
I look at a market here that is going to continue to be impacted by rates going higher, ... and I think it's heading into one of those post-earnings periods where it meanders. It's hard to see any substantive reason for us to move higher.
cheap cost looks move next stock target trading
And (Chase) is trading at 10 times next year's earnings. I think the stock is very cheap from a valuation basis, and it's not something that will move immediately. There are cost restructurings to go into this merger; but over time, I think the stock looks good. And I have a 12-month target of around $60 on that,
assumed behind belief continued economy energy fourth lower market move poor power prices quarter
The market has some power today. Continued lower energy prices and the belief that the economy is rebounding off a poor fourth quarter are assumed to be behind the move today.
band break extremely few last narrow stuck
We've been stuck in an extremely narrow band for the last few weeks, and this could break us out.
close curve deal extremely federal high hope market meeting next note rally recession reserve slowing until worried yield
It was unanimous we'd have a year-end rally until the yield curve inverted. We wanted to close the market on a high note this year, but now we're worried that the 2006 market will have to deal with this. The next Federal Reserve meeting will be extremely critical. We have to hope this isn't predictive of a recession or a slowing economy.
positive provide typical
It was a little better than a typical September, but it didn't provide any big positive surprises.
