Some of my will is gone, ... But not all of it. You just look at things differently. Every time I hear the anthem, I think about her. I think about seeing her face for the last time and that's where I'm trying to draw my strength from.
My thoughts going into it was to give the kid tomorrow a little leeway and not have it rest upon his shoulders. We're looking at that game squaring our eyes right now.
Location was a lot better than what I expected and the breaking ball is ahead of schedule.
It has nothing to do with money, ... You can't buy a ring. You have to have a lot of things go your way. The four teams that are left now, everybody wants it just as bad.
I put us in a hole too early, and you can't give another team that type of momentum that early, ... We weren't able to overcome it, and you can't allow that to happen.
I planned on pitching the whole time, ... No way I was going to run out on the team.
That might be somebody's only chance to see me pitch. They might have driven four hours to get there. I'm going to be out there if I can help it.
I just wanted to make sure I was ready before I gave (WBC manager) Buck (Martinez) the nod. There's a pride factor. You never want to go out there and embarrass yourself. I'm going to be competing against guys half my age.
I'll do whatever we need to do. We need to make it happen.
I know he's looking forward to getting home, but this is exciting for him to be able to meet more of his future teammates, and it's great that I got to be able to see it, too. It's a great facility and a great campus. It's not like the minor league places I've been to.
I know my immediate plans are I'll go back to Florida. My children are on spring break, so I know immediately what I'm going to do. It doesn't matter when I step away. I will miss competing, but I won't be too far from the game.
I know my immediate plans are I'll go back to Florida.
I know my body, ... That's the best thing about it. I know that with my back, I'm getting through this OK. With a leg injury, I probably wouldn't be able to disguise it as well and probably wouldn't be able to start. We've probably got a handful of guys on this team right now that have things going on. It's not that big a deal. We'll grind through it.
I just go to the ballpark and watch as the media buzz around me. Especially if the Red Sox are playing. I hang out on the field before the game. I visit the clubhouses. The rumors start flying like base hits off one of those South African pitchers we faced in the World Baseball Classic. Good times.
