boy fine job
He did a fine job today, and boy did we need it.
ball given good hit rather runs supposed walk
He did what he was supposed to do, I'd rather see two runs given up because he's making them hit the ball and put in play than walk guys. To me, that's a good outing.
baseball definitely felt guy sure
He was excited, but he wanted to make sure it was a baseball decision. I definitely felt he's the right guy to be the DH.
baseball definitely felt guy sure
He was excited, but he wanted to make sure it was a baseball decision, ... I definitely felt he's the right guy to be the DH.
again last needed quite sharp start
He was masterful again today. He wasn't quite as sharp as he would have been had he pitched his last start and been healthy, but nonetheless when he needed to do it, he did it, and that's what he's been doing all year.
almost bit great ironically last longer looked looks month played season spring training
He's played well and ironically he looks great this spring. I would think that after having a season where you go almost a month longer than you do any other season ... he would have come to spring training and be a little bit slow. But he's actually looked better this spring than he did last spring.
impressed players several
He's pitched well. I'm impressed with several of their young players ... him in particular.
control good guys surprised year
He's pitched very, very good for us. I'm surprised his control has been better than most guys in their first year after surgery.
consider grinding
I also like the idea of having Bagwell in there, too. . . . There will be a lot of that grinding going on to consider what it's going to be.
mound needs wants
He wants to and I want him to, ... I think he'd just like to know where he stands. He needs to be on the mound to see where he is.
anybody detroit helped
He was better than anybody I had on my Detroit staff. He could have helped us.
expected slow starter time
He did OK, probably a little better than I expected for his first time out. He's a notoriously slow starter anyway, so I thought he was OK, pretty good.
advice bit decided push rest taken year
He could have taken the rest of the year just to rehab, which is probably a lot of the advice that he had received. He decided that he was going to push it a little bit and try to come back this year, just in case.
above drive effect four front gives guys hitting middle pitches produces sneak somebody though
He could have an effect on the guys above him, because if he can (hit 25 homers and drive in 90), then those other guys hitting in front of him would have to get pitches to hit, and they could have some more numbers, too. If he produces like we think he can, it gives you four guys in the middle of the lineup, and you can't sneak though it. Somebody is going to get you.
