Before I talk to a coach, I usually talk to the athlete's guidance counselor to make sure he or she is qualified to attend Swarthmore.
Every coach talks about turnovers, but it's how deeply you emphasize it is where you get consistency. Our guys are riddled with the thought of having to go get the ball at all times in everything that we're doing. It's the number one emphasis in the program for us.
We get down to the end of the season and we've got a couple of games left and we're fortunately in that position, then that's a whole different thing, and we'll deal with it when the time comes. But right now it's not something that our guys talk about. It's not something topical on our football team because it means nothing.
We tell recruits we're going to a nice, quiet, homey place. We're going to talk about your future and stuff like that. The next thing they know, John's unbuttoning his shirt and dancing in front of everybody.
