We feel very fortunate to be in this situation at this time of year. It's a beautiful time to be coaching and playing football. This is the situation we all hope for. We all want to get in the Rose Bowl. The situation this year is a little different.
These are two historic offenses. There are so many explosive players on both teams.
(Sanchez) had a very solid day today. We really mixed it around and played a lot of stuff off of the running game, and we tried to balance it out more than we have in the past to make it more realistic, and he handled it very well. It's a very positive sign.
I think he's definitely in that vein, ... Obviously he's got a long ways to go before we can say he's as great a player as those guys, but he has the potential and to be as good as anyone who's ever played.
We're capable of playing like that in both halves. That's frustrating to the coaches. But it's just so powerful to see it happen for the second week in a row.
I don't understand. We've played in that setting for years, and I think it adds to the game and the excitement of it.
I have great respect for what he's done. We've played against each other, and I think it's really cool that we have this chance to match up again. This is the first time we've gone head to head as head coaches.
What my thoughts come back to about this football team right now, this is a program that has found a level of excellence. We'll get back to work and see how it comes together. We have great players coming on to offset the guys that are leaving.
To get this far this fast is impressive. We have to find out how far he can take it. He played particularly well in the last scrimmage. Cushing's able to hold his own, no doubt about it.
The defense played well because the run-and-shoot is truly a challenge.
(UA) played really hard, and they had a very good defense, ... Their scheme is very solid. They know how to mix their looks and their pressures. They came after us and were really effective. We respect the heck out of what they are doing and what they are capable of doing.
Family is family. That means we open the doors to them. I think our players are comfortable with people at practice. We try to do a real nice job of screening. I'm not paranoid about it. However, we're going to do everything we can to try and not let the wrong people watch.
It's probably hard for you to imagine, but we took this thing in stride, step by step as we went through. We didn't talk about national championship very much, the players probably did some.
It was really a unique experience. I had been at the University of Pacific for my first three years coaching. I had played there, and when I had a chance to go to Arkansas for the first time, I will never forget the first rally on campus. It was crazy, and the energy was awesome, and the band was playing and the students went nuts. It was the first sense of what big-time college football was like, to be on the inside of it. That year at Arkansas was the year that really energized me about being a college coach and liking it and coaching on the big level. I got captured by it.
