growing jim kid knew larry
As a kid growing up (watching) Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Larry Csonka and all the rest, you always knew about those guys,
gonna wife
Now, my wife has a vote, but I don't know who the other two are, ... I like that, though. I think we're gonna keep getting better.
against great guys plays qualities question special
I thought we had him. You can see now that he has some special qualities about him. No question about it. All in all, I thought our guys did some great things against him. It was those two big plays that got us.
ball good middle position spring
K.J. (Smith)'s had a very good camp. He had a good spring ball and I like him there (at middle linebacker). I think it's a good position for him.
bad ball came emphasis hard maybe nine shape strong worked
It behooves me. It came in every shape and size. When it rains, it pours. We worked very hard on that all through camp, all through spring. Maybe our emphasis hasn't been strong enough lately. How many times was the ball on the ground? Nine times. That's ridiculous. That's bad coaching.
anybody blocking catch field good line offensive open running touching
Our blocking downfield was big. When you go running right through the offensive line without anybody touching you, something good is going on there. Once (Rhodes) got into the open field they weren't going to catch him.
hung pitt ranked time won
Pitt was 1-4 -- and one time was ranked No. 23. They hung in there and now, all of sudden, they won two in a row.
adapt college football hard helpful players prepares pro system teach tried worked year
He worked very hard to adapt to our system and I think that's going to be helpful to him a year from now. We tried to teach players how a pro football player prepares himself, which is different than how a college player prepares.
coach fire loved putting scout
He was out to get us every day, ... He would coach them all up. I loved the way he was putting fire into the scout team.
everybody hard help media perry shoulder talent worried
He has talent and should keep working hard and not look over his shoulder right now, not get worried about what the media and everybody else has to say. It really can help him to improve. Perry can play better than he did.
atmosphere ball coaching embrace game hard players practice style though time tried whatever work worked
We try to play the game on the practice field. Any time players can feel in a simulated-type atmosphere where it's like a ball game, they like it. Even though it's hard work and it's competitive and all of those things, that's our intent. Fun, or whatever it is, I feel like our players have worked really hard. I think that they've tried to embrace our style of coaching that we've brought.
good management shots took
We took some shots we shouldn't have taken. It wasn't good shot management. We just didn't play very smart, and they made some shots.
goofy heck people
People have to vent. Perceptions are created, and boy, I try like heck to keep that to a minimum. That's when things can get goofy and out of whack.
chance create good plays talking
Somehow, we have to create that kind of world again, where we're making the plays on the turnovers. Eight, we had a chance for. It should have been six, seven. Could have been eight. I'm talking easy. That's a good thing, too.
