affairs freely move name obtain wealth
Those who obtain the wealth of the Lord's Name move freely in the world; all their affairs are resolved.
approach death fall fear indulge inevitably material pleasures prey sensual wrath
Those, who indulge excessively in material and sensual pleasures approach death with fear and inevitably fall prey to the wrath of death.
bestows bold delights gambler game hand heaps loves player proper skilled spare strong verily
Even the strong hand the bold player conquers, as the skilled gambler heaps up his winnings at the proper time. Upon him that loves the game (the god), and does not spare his money, (the game, the god) verily bestows the delights of wealth.
actions engage growth lead national ourselves
Even now we should engage ourselves in such actions that lead to national development, growth and progress.
injury slip vigilant
Be vigilant about words. Slip while walking, the injury can be repaired; but slip with talking, the injury is irreparable.
dwell mind name within
Be kind to Nanak, O God; let the Lord's Name dwell within my mind and body.
according depends divine happens
Every thing depends on the will of Providence; it all happens according to the Divine Plan.
acquire act authority desire earn engage fame himself man maximum noblest order realize social
Every man should first desire to acquire maximum knowledge, to engage himself in the noblest of deeds, earn social respect, success, fame and prosperity, authority and then act accordingly in order to realize them.
breath deep eye fast gloom held limbs moving
Every moving thing I have held fast. Eye and breath I have held fast. I have held fast all limbs in the deep gloom of the night.
fall fault sin
Every fall makes a dent; every fault has to be corrected; and every sin has to be cleansed. Everyone is a prisoner.
beat lightning thus
As the lightning at all times smites irresistibly the tree, thus would I to-day irresistibly beat the gamesters with my dice!
dead earth jealous shall spirit thus
As the earth is dead in spirit, in spirit more dead than the dead, and as the spirit of him that has died, thus shall the spirit of the jealous (man) be dead!
art best hair man plants thou turn wears
As the best of the plants thou art reputed, O herb, turn this man for me to-day into a eunuch that wears his hair dressed!
against animals fear forest frighten shout start thus wild
As the wild animals of the forest start in fear from man, thus do thou, O drum, shout against the enemies, frighten them away, and bewilder their minds!
