We wanted to get a good start, but I don't think we've had the best first period the last couple of games. I'm sure it's something we thought about a little bit more, knowing the intensity they were going to play with being an important game for them. We knew they were going to play hard. I think we just tried to match that.
When a goalie is off for that long, you expect he might be a little rusty. Early on, he was giving out a few more rebounds than normal. If we had jumped on a few on those, it might have been different. As the game wore on, he seemed to get more comfortable and he was pretty solid back there.
Montreal and Toronto are two teams that I watched a lot growing up. Definitely, when the schedule came out these were the games I was looking forward to.
Maybe there will be some other firsts, but I don't look at a two-goal game too high up on the firsts list,
Obviously for the style of game we want to play, we want to go 60 minutes and don't want to take any time off. You have to be in shape to play 60 minutes and this is part of getting prepared to do that.
I think we made it easy for them to play against us. We can't play many more games like we did tonight or else it's going to make the next games tough.
I think we were rested, it was just one of those nights where it seemed that everyone couldn't get their game going. When that happens, it's tough to win.
I don't think we're overjoyed. Wins are expected, and that's the way it needs to be. I don't think we're up on Cloud Nine. It's a great win and we will not take anything away from it, but we have a lot of games left and we have to take the good things from this game and carry them on.
I don't think one moment sticks out more than any other. It was just great to play with him. We had a great game on the Island (against the New York Islanders) and scored a couple of goals. It was really fun. And the game against Atlanta where he scored five points -- that was memorable, too. I'll never forget that.
This wasn't our best at all. But, trust me, we've played a lot of good hockey games and not won.
Just seeing him score five points in one game this season ... those were memories I will take.
We have a lot of games left, and we don't want to look too much into it.
I don't know if we were there the first period as much as we would have liked to (have been). I don't know if the intensity level of the game was where it typically is.
Individually, it's going to help me to push myself more to play with guys like that, ... Playing games with guys like that is great but practising is where you're really going to benefit. Seeing their habits is definitely going to help me.
