game looked pitching step
It looked like they had the game won. They had a lot of opportunities there and our pitching was able to step up and really come through for us. That was big-time.
capitalize game last until won
It was the same kind of game as the one last night, but they won that one. They had opportunities, we had opportunities, we couldn't capitalize until the 11th.
august early games hitting july panic prepare start thinking
Right now it's just too early. It's just too early to start thinking about hitting the panic button. If it's in July or August and you're just 30 games under and it's just a joke, then you've got to find a way to prepare yourself. But right now nobody's panicking.
believe career funny game great guys help older players point reached responsibility seems work younger
One of the great things about the game is how the older players are there to help the young guys along. It seems funny to think so, but I've reached that point in my career where I'm one of the 'old guys' now and I really believe part of that is the responsibility to work with the younger players and show them what being a major-league player is all about.
drive earlier fastball game looked pitchers step
I got a fastball middle-in and was able to drive it. It was big because it looked earlier like they had the game won. Our pitchers were able to step up and really come through for us.
badly close coming game hurts results teammates watching
Just watching my teammates on TV, how close they're coming and not getting results ... it hurts a lot. I'm there on the couch, the game is close and they need a big hit, and I'm, like, 'Jeez, let me get out there.' I want so badly to be part of it again.
aside cross few focus game job nerves realize stuff
I have to realize when you get all the stuff out of the way that when I cross the lines, I have a job to do. Hopefully, I'm able to put my nerves aside and just focus on the game and get a few hits.
drive fair guys hits share start timing
We're getting our fair share of hits, that's not the problem. It's just the timing of our hits that's bad. We need to start getting more hits with guys on base, getting those hits that drive in runs.
baseball bottom good line playing starting timely win
We're playing real good baseball right now, ... The bottom line is we are getting real good starting pitching. If you get that and some timely hitting, you win ballgames.
dominated good played
We have played well here. It's good for us. We've had a lot of years where they've dominated us here.
behind brad jim sees special
I think, if you're the Pirates, you've got to take a look at Brad Eldred, too. He's a special player. He's right there, and I think everyone sees that. And you know what? I've been in his shoes, too, when I was behind Jim Thome in Cleveland.
acting reaching start watching
I think everybody's watching what's going on, and we need to start acting and reaching out,
drive fastball looking sit threw trying
I was just trying to sit on the fastball, looking for something hard, and he threw me a fastball middle-away and I was able to drive it.
jack thinking throw
I thought Jack would just throw to me. They were thinking two all the way.
