He it is Who caused those who disbelieved of the followers of the Book to go forth from their homes at the first banishment you did not think that they would go forth, while they were certain that their fortresses would defend them against Allah; but Allah came to them whence they did not expect, and cast terror into their hearts; they demolished their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers; therefore take a lesson, O you who have eyes! / And had it not been that Allah had decreed for them the exile, He would certainly have punished them in this world, and m the hereafter they shall have chastisement of the fire.
certainly fear good hunger lives loss misfortune news property shall somewhat surely
And We will most certainly try you with somewhat of fear and hunger and loss of property and lives and fruits; and give good news to the patient, / Who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: Surely we are Allah's and to Him we shall surely return.
account certainly discourse entered grace grievous mercy touched
And were it not for Allah's grace upon you and His mercy in this world and the hereafter, a grievous chastisement would certainly have touched you on account of the discourse which you entered into.
allah among certainly grace mercy turned
Then you turned back after that; so were it not for the grace of Allah and His mercy on you, you would certainly have been among the losers.
allah believed certainly evil guarded known reward themselves
And if they had believed and guarded themselves (against evil), reward from Allah would certainly have been better; had they but known (this).
assigned certainly disbelieve god houses people silver single stairs
And were it not that all people had been a single nation, We would certainly have assigned to those who disbelieve in the Beneficent God (to make) of silver the roofs of their houses and the stairs by which they ascend.
certainly hang surely themselves turned yourselves
Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; / Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak.
afterwards allah allow battle certainly deeds due either favor free means meet necks overcome pleased slain until
So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates. That (shall be so); and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have exacted what is due from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others; and (as for) those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish.
certain escape shall
And away from them shall go what they called upon before, and they shall know for certain that there is no escape for them.
afflicts allah given hearts patient pilgrimage scholars-and-scholarship spend tremble whose
To those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and those who are patient under that which afflicts them, and those who keep up prayer, and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them. (The Pilgrimage 22.35)
against allah excellent faith fear gathered increased men people sufficient surely therefore whom
Those to whom the people said: Surely men have gathered against you, therefore fear them, but this increased their faith, and they said: Allah is sufficient for us and most excellent is the Protector.
account grace mercy surely
But on account of mercy from your Lord-- surely His grace to you is abundant.
allah eyes fear giving hearts keeping light men neither nor prayer selling shall turn whom
Men whom neither merchandise nor selling diverts from the remembrance of Allah and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of poor-rate; they fear a day in which the hearts and eyes shall turn about. (The Light 24.37)
both rejected sent surely
When We sent to them two, they rejected both of them, then We strengthened (them) with a third, so they said: Surely we are messengers to you.
