There's no question that there's some sentimentality involved, ... There's a lot of other reasons to have him be the DH, but I think the overriding reason is he's a good player and if the game's on the line, I'd just as soon have Jeff Bagwell up.

One of the nice things about picking up Preston Wilson is if it were to be that Jeff is not going to be there, then we certainly have depth, and that's one of the plusses. We have pieces that can move, and we've been blessed in this organization over the past few years of having guys that are flexible and can play different positions. We have catchers that can play first base, so we're OK.

There was some conversation about maybe taking the rest of the year off and rehabbing his shoulder and getting it strong over the winter. It was Jeff that decided he wanted to do everything he could to get ready to go this year just in case something good happened.

I've never seen it where the crowd cheers as much when he breaks his bat and the ball rolls 10 feet. The place goes crazy. Most of the time, people go crazy when a guy takes a big swing, and they go 'Ooooh...' This guy, in our park, he nibbles one and everyone starts going nuts.
