ball calls difficult hard learn pitches pleased receives worked
I've been very, very pleased with how he receives the ball and how he calls a game, the pitches he's called. It's difficult to learn the pitchers, but he's worked hard at it.
eddie pitches spring threw
Eddie threw more pitches in that inning than he did all spring training.
ball cost count fourth good higher himself needed pitch pitches seemed settle
On the whole it was a good outing. There were a lot of times when Gil over-threw and cost himself a higher pitch count early. But he seemed to settle down in the third, fourth and fifth, got the ball down and made pitches when he needed to.
decision pitches sitting sixth wondering
Did he have no-hit stuff? Yeah, I think so. I was sitting there in the sixth wondering how many pitches to let him go for a no-hitter. He's young and big and strong, and he had only 83 going into the seventh. ... I'd have let him go 130 pitches. I'd like to have had that decision to make.
difference left pitches turned
Hernandez left two pitches up in the zone, and that turned out to be the difference in the game.
easy guys pitches start struggling taking
When you're struggling like we were, it's easy to start pressing. Our guys didn't do that. We started taking more pitches and getting into better counts.
against ball pitches threw
Our pitches got very tentative. You can't get tentative against a lineup like the Yankees. We threw ball one, ball two.
count expecting firm five four innings love pitch pitches relief
He pitched two innings in relief in Toronto, so we're not expecting 120 pitches from him. But we haven't set a firm pitch count for him yet. We will before he pitches, but I'd love to see four or five innings from him.
good kid pitches sitting sixth stuff tonight wondering
The kid had good stuff tonight and I'm sitting there in the sixth wondering how many pitches to give him to try and get his no-no,
chance dugout good kid pitches sitting wondering
The kid had good stuff. I was sitting in the dugout wondering how many pitches to give him for a chance at his no-no. I was in a quandary. I probably would have let him go to 130 pitches, but we'll never know.
caught glad hit sure
We weren't sure if he caught it just before he hit or as he hit. After he hit the ground, we were glad to see him get back up.
hold might throw
We might hold him back and just have him throw on the side. But we're not there yet.
ball hit last
We hit the ball pretty decently today, but right at people. Just like last night.
hours medical people recover slept
We think he slept on it wrong, and sometimes that can take hours to recover from. At least that's what our medical people told me. Anyway, he's fine.
