Mark Schmidtis an American college basketball coach and the current men's basketball head coach at St. Bonaventure University. He took the job at the start of the 2007–08 season after holding the same position at Robert Morris University. During the 2008–09 season, he led St. Bonaventure to a 15–15 record, and an appearance in the Atlantic 10 postseason tournament, the school's first since 2005. We started off too slow and didn't seem to have our legs. I think they were itching to play because of the time off, and it was hard to get back into it. But give St. Francis credit. They made a run, and we didn't do a good job stopping it.

We understood why he chose a bigger Division I school. But that didn't work out, so we are happy to have him. I knew when I first saw him that he would be the kind of player who could be an impact player.

It is a little harder now, because every coach knows about players, and there aren't many gems who get overlooked. But this game was a perfect opportunity to see what other players could do. It is nice to see these guys get rewarded with playing time.

Those four guys are the foundation for this team, and I wanted to make sure we were all on the same page. They needed to be reminded of my expectations. They are the spokesmen for this team.

We didn't have any rhythm. We weren't aggressive on offense or defense. We just didn't play the way you need to play to win on the road. You can't play your 'C' game. You have to play your 'A' game.

That shows that we're getting tough points, blue-collar type things, inside. We're taking the ball strong to the basket, and that's really, really important. It's critical.

Your goal is to coach the perfect game, and to have all your players, play the perfect game. That first year is difficult. You can never really be prepared for it. You are going to make mistakes. You just have to learn from those mistakes.

There were a lot of people who didn't expect many things from us this year because we lost three top scorers. But this team plays hard and wants to be successful. We just need to get back to where we started conference play.
