This young man is special. He was learning about catching with no hesitation on his part. He's really come a long way in a short period of time. And then to have to tell him this, it was very difficult. But we need pitching more than anything else right now.
We didn't get him to lead off. But he's going to be there if he's succeeding and the other guys in the lineup are doing their job. Right now he's comfortable there.
We got in that position because of injuries and don't think we didn't know we were short in the minor leagues. We knew that, but who is going to foresee injuries?
We will have experienced guys sitting on the bench this year that have been successful in that role they play. They understand it and accept it and produce in that role. So it should be better.
We want to win tomorrow. We'll go out and approach it that way, and hopefully we can get one.
We are down to two players. They are both left-handed and I just didn't want to burn one of the players just in case we had to make some moves later in the game -- pinch-run, double-switch, whatever. I didn't want to tie my hands there with two outs.
Who's it going to be? ... We don't have other starters here.
We would prefer him to do one more, but if he's out of that one and everything is fine, that would be close enough for him to go five or six innings.
We understand where he's coming from. He's been an All-Star second baseman. He is one of the best players in baseball because of his offense at that position... Moving your family and getting adjusted - it plays on a guy's mind.
We've got time. We don't want him to come in here and rush it. He's a veteran guy, not a youngster that's going to be going out there trying to prove anything.
We've just been very fortunate we had good success against him and made good pitches on him, ... You have to contain him. You don't just totally shut him down.
We'll win our share of games. If things break right, we might surprise somebody.
When you are losing, a manager thinks about using his best. That's where I could have used somebody else in certain situation.
When we learned about the various challenges service-disabled veterans have in getting loans and growing businesses, we realized there is a real need and we wanted to address it.
