trying work
He's had a lot of things to work around. He's been trying to get back to the place he was.
knew
I always knew we had a shot, but a long shot.
ball breaking confident fastball matt threw
He was very sharp. He threw the ball hard, the same old Matt Cain. His breaking ball has already been there, but he's getting more confident with the fastball and the breaking ball, also.
couple
He was tired. He did a couple things he hadn't done yet this spring.
calm kid king mound people time
He was the king of the mound today. He was a very calm kid out there. Right now he's overpowering people with his fastball. There's going to be a time when he's going to have to go to the other pitches. And he will.
batting behind giving guy happens shot
He's contributing big-time to our winning, being on base, prolonging the inning, giving a shot to the guy batting behind him. It happens every year.
decent good might people slider
He had a pretty decent sinkerball and a good slider ? and good hitting. He can hit, by the way. Some people might besurprised.
couple score spring
He had to do a couple of things he hadn't done all spring -- score from first base, go in the gap.
ball hit longer road stays tests
He hasn't had much to do yet. The ball was hit right at him. There are going to be some tests down the road as he stays longer in games.
believe confidence excellent gain movement park pitcher successful
He hasn't been a very successful guy, but I like the movement of his fastball. I believe SBC Park will be an excellent place to pitch. He'll gain confidence and be a better pitcher there.
early game good kept
He was OK. Not his real good outing. Nevertheless, he kept us in the game even with the early runs.
hit knew run throw tremendous
He was one of those five-tool guys. He could throw and run and hit with power, everything. He was green, 20 years old, a big kid. He made some mistakes. But we knew he was going to be a tremendous player, an MVP-type of guy.
action expect falling guys
He was really tired. I don't expect him to play. Also, this outfield, you see young guys slipping and falling on the grass. I believe, all things considered, No. 25 won't see any action tomorrow.
maybe pitching three
He's pitching as well as he did three years ago, maybe better.
