accomplish duties man order refuge
In order to accomplish his duties fearlessly, a man must take the refuge of 'Truth'.
against anxiety applause belong cheap content country develop dry envy eternal fatal feed foster hatred ideals instead men praise self society
IN every country today, men have become power-mad and they resort, without any compunction, to self praise and dry declamation. They develop hatred against others, foster envy and feed their fatal egos. They plunge the Society to which they belong into fear, anxiety and disorder. They do not know, that if elevating ideals are adhered to and practiced, they could gain eternal fame; instead they are content with cheap applause and short-lived publicity.
deliver dwell fixed gods mighty shall
The gods that dwell in heaven, and those that dwell in the atmosphere; the mighty (gods) that are fixed upon the earth, they shall deliver us from calamity!
bad company dwell earth endures fool gives good herself holds keeps wild
The earth holds the fool and holds the wise, endures that good and bad dwell (upon her); she keeps company with the boar, gives herself up to the wild hog.
black broad covered earth kindly night pleasant shall whom
The earth upon whom day and night jointly, black and bright, have been decreed, the broad earth covered and enveloped with rain, shall kindly place us into every pleasant abode!
bestows earth gold holds kindly manifold secret shall treasures wealth
The earth that holds treasures manifold in secret places, wealth, jewels, and gold shall she give to me; she that bestows wealth liberally, the kindly goddess, wealth shall she bestow upon us!
earth free great herself manifold midst plants pressure shall spread supports
The earth that has heights, and slopes, and great plains, that supports the plants of manifold virtue, free from the pressure that comes from the midst of men, she shall spread out for us, and fit. herself for us!
beautiful love night sacrifice servant true
The devotees look beautiful in the True Court; night and day, they are happy. They are imbued with the Love of the Transcendent Lord; servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them.
beloved dance fools jump keeps perform showing suffer terrible tightly worship
The devotee keeps his Beloved clasped tightly to his heart. The fools perform devotional worship by showing off; they dance and dance and jump all around, but they only suffer in terrible pain.
following grown husband lord wandering weary within
The forest-dwellers have grown weary of wandering in the forests; following the Guru's Teachings, see your Husband Lord within your heart.
impulse moreover
The first impulse of jealousy, moreover the one that comes after the first, the fire, the heart-burning, that do wc waft away from thee.
arise calculate contentment heart
The heart does not calculate in numbers; it confers contentment which is immeasurable. That contentment can arise only through faith.
caused creatures earth heavens horses mountains stable stood
The heavens have stood, the earth has stood, all creatures have stood. The mountains have stood upon their foundation, the horses in the stable I have caused to stand.
bestial call caught disease heart insult labeled melt persons sight
THE heart that does not melt at the sight of persons caught in the coils of ignorance, disease or deprivation, has to be labeled demonic; to call it bestial is an insult to the beasts.
