Coughlin most recently served as the head coach for the New York Giants, a position he served in for 12 seasons, where he led the Giants to victory in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI, both against the New England Patriots. He's progressing well. He feels good about it. The soreness is gradually dissipating. I would say he's on schedule for the opener, although we're going to be cautious. I don't see him playing this week.

I don't question that part of his workout. I just think the important thing is for the players to be together.

Hopefully, that's not going to be an issue. He jumped up to catch a ball, just came down wrong. It seems to be a lateral ankle, which would be encouraging that we would be able to get him right back.

He threw for greater distance and felt good about that. He also threw a few more passes than yesterday and didn't have any discomfort at all, which is a good sign.

He's an incredible athlete and a guy whose conditioning really has been a measuring stick for everybody in this league. It is so easy for us to point to Jerry Rice when we are trying to make a strong message with a player who we may not feel is as serious about his game as he should be.

He's OK, he's just not ready to do all the twisting and turning. We'll see how he is tomorrow. We've started cautiously with Mike because of the injury. This game his playing time would have been extended, but that's probably not going to be the case.

However, on the road in that stadium under those circumstances, I felt our team needed to be rewarded for driving the ball that distance to take some of the momentum out of the crowd. If we would have not scored, then I think we would have even created a greater volume of noise in that stadium.
