baseball jobs ready realize regular
We want to come here and win, but they also realize our jobs are to get ready for the regular season.
boat
We've been in the same boat for a while. We just have to keep winning.
game lose
We're going to have to be ready. It's not like it's a 162-game season, where if you lose a game early, it's fine. If you want to advance, you have to win.
everybody perception players ready step teams wants
There's a perception about the players' attitudes--that they're not ready mentally. They may be nonchalant now, but once players step on the field, it'll be a different story. Everybody wants to win, you can't let teams show you up.
choose high knew league might money playing school scout senior summer year
After my senior year in high school, I was playing in some summer league and a scout said, 'If you keep after this, you might be able to make some money doing this.' So I knew I'd choose baseball.
awesome closer good great guy hit home hoping location mistake plate run
This guy is an awesome closer with a good fastball, good location and a great changeup, ... I was just hoping he'd make a mistake up and over the plate that I could hit hard. When I hit it, I was just hoping it would get up over (Giles') head. A home run would have been a bonus.
hope knew matt morris pitcher pitching remember talk tremendous watching
I remember there was a lot of talk about upgrading the pitching staff. I knew Matt Morris was out there. Watching him from the other league, I knew he was a tremendous pitcher and a tremendous competitor. I was thinking, 'Man, I really hope we get him,' and we did.
barry fill gold great hit home missing number played quality record speaks track
His track record speaks for itself. He's got Gold Gloves, hit big home runs, played in the World Series. .. . He's a real quality guy. With Barry and Mo being our number 4 and 5 hitters, it's great that he can not only play the outfield, but he can fill in the missing offense.
night
He had been getting me out with fastballs all night. I was able to get one over the plate.
allow field game left medical played staff
He hasn't played a game in left field yet. I don't think he'd really be ready, and I don't think the Giants' medical staff would allow it.
expected expecting few good halves hit home last noticeable runs second
I had no idea how many I had, ... That's a lot of hits. The last few years I had better second halves than first halves. I was not expecting to hit as many home runs as I have, but I expected to have a good second half. It's more noticeable because I'm in a new league.
ball hit knocks luck though wind
I don't know how that ball went out, ... Usually the wind knocks it down to right field. It's probably luck. I usually hit one of those streaks every year, even though I don't hit a lot of homers.
early expect regard second
I didn't expect to have as many homers, ... but I've always done better in the second half. I don't regard myself as a home-run hitter. I'm more of a line-drive hitter. It's too early to make a judgment.
great shot stays win
If everyone stays healthy, we've got a great shot to be there and win the division.
