applaud ball beats bunch great guy hanging next pitches takes tough
That was a great at-bat. You never know if that has anything to do with the next guy, but when a guy makes a bunch of pitches on you, and he nubs the ball to shortstop and he beats it out, I think it takes something out of you. You've got to applaud Willy for hanging tough in that at-bat.
extremely
That's the kind of thing that's going to make your lineup extremely tough. You can't get through them all.
couple last louis played seem
That's unbelievable. That's what St. Louis has done so well the last couple of years. They seem to have played real well in our division.
ends fit ought
I believe, all things considered, this is the right fit for him. This ought to be the place he ends his career.
bent break certainly
He bent a little bit, ... but he certainly didn't break and he didn't give in.
calmed came confident game good improvement last major matured saw seemed situations year
He pitched well, of course, the year before. And last year I saw some major improvement in him. I thought he calmed down. I thought he came into the game with a real good game plan. I thought he executed his game plans. To me, he matured a lot last year. He seemed more confident on the mound. He pitched in some big situations and he got some outs in some big situations.
fine likes win wish
He pitched very well. We couldn't get that win for him. I wish we could have. I don't think he located as well as he likes to locate, but still he managed to do a fine job.
fool situations tense trust
He pitched very, very well in some of the most tense situations that you can ever be in. And he can go back and say 'this is the way I did it. I don't have to fool anybody. I can trust my stuff.
quite seen sharp
He (Pettitte) wasn't quite as sharp as we've seen him,
andy demeanor face happy talking tough win
He personifies what we've been talking about, with determination, guts, the will to win and the tough part. When you look at Andy or talk to him, he's got such a happy face and such a happy demeanor it belies how tough he is.
enjoys fine move office perfectly political running time
I don't think he's going to be running for political office any time soon. He just enjoys pitching. If he could just move all this into his hometown, I think he'd be perfectly fine with that.
exactly injured respect
I don't see (the injured players) as a disadvantage (for the Cardinals). It may not be exactly as they would like to have it, but I can't tell you how much we respect their team.
along becoming bit chance fail gotten letting luxury might platoon player seem stretch type
I don't see him as a platoon player by any stretch of the imagination, and in other circumstances, he might have gotten a chance to play every day, and you would have seem more of this type of player every day. We just didn't have the luxury of letting him fail a little bit along the way to becoming the player that he is.
appreciate good people recognize
I appreciate when people recognize that you're doing a good job,
