baseball focused gotten playing ready win
It's been a lot different. In years past, we focused on playing baseball games. From Day 1 (this year), we've gotten ready to win baseball games. We've focused more on little things, fundamental things.
business care focus games relief rest talk totally winning
The only sense of relief is that I don't have to talk about it. My focus here is totally on winning games and it always has been. I've always thought that if you take care of your business, then the rest of the business will take care of itself.
allow enter focus negative past point thoughts
It got to the point where we all had been through it. The thing you do is not focus past today. You don't allow negative thoughts to enter your mind.
defense fast focusing good hard main pleased team today
The main thing we've been focusing on is our team defense and I thought our team defense was very, very good today on a very hard and fast infield. So I was pleased with that.
guys heart knew matter time
I know these guys will play with a lot of heart and a lot of pride. I knew it was matter of time before we got it going again.
knew
I knew it was something we had to do,
believe
I'm real superstitious. Somehow, I don't believe it's the uniform.
worthwhile
It's not going to be easy. And nothing worthwhile is easy.
bat concern swinging
It's not a concern to me. I hadn't even thought about it. Jenkins is swinging the bat OK.
everybody settle younger
Everybody was a little off today, command-wise. Especially for the younger kids, there's always some jitters. They'll settle down.
average difficult hitting joe record streak tremendous understand win year
The average person probably doesn't understand what he has done and the accomplishments he's achieved, ... To win 14 consecutive years, it's like Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak - it's a record that never will be broken. He has done it with tremendous turnover in roster. He has done it under difficult circumstances. He has done it with rookies. He has done it with veterans. He just does it year after year after year.
against baseball class consistent good home last league less national nice played series timely won
That is the class of the National League for the last 14 years. It's pretty big. We've never even won a series at home against them, much less a sweep. We played good, consistent baseball to do it -- with pitching, good timely hitting. It was a nice series.
ball fast hoping innings sharp
It was just one of those days. He just wasn't sharp tonight. I was hoping he could go two innings but his fast ball was up and he wasn't locating his pitches.
beat game good hard mistakes phase sit talent wait win
Not only are they so good talent-wise, they're so good in every phase of the game. You come in here and play them, you know they're not going to beat themselves. They're going to play the game hard and they're going to play the game right. If you sit back and wait for them to make mistakes so you can win a game, you're going to be in trouble.
