ability adjust baltimore expect game himself knowledge maturity onto realize says time walks
Every time he walks out and you look at his face, you realize you expect too much out of him. He's only 19 years old. But even today, he showed an ability to adjust and get back onto his game. The first two innings, he was not on his game at all. To adjust the way he did and to keep Baltimore where they were as long as he did, says a lot about his maturity and his knowledge of himself as a pitcher.
absolutely anybody expected forward starts thrown watching
The way he's thrown and the starts that he's had have been absolutely outstanding. He has been better than we really expected him to be. Like anybody else, when he's on the mound, I look forward to watching him pitch.
center expected gave heck hoped jeremy
Offensively, I think we hoped for a little more out of Jeremy and I know he expected a lot more from himself. Defensively, he gave us more than we expected. He's going to get better at the plate, but he showed us he can play the heck out of center field.
expect griffin rick
Realistically, probably not. (Trainer) Rick Griffin is working with him, and he doesn't expect it to be anything good.
angels balls complete expected good ground strikes threw throw
He threw a lot of strikes and got a lot of ground balls. I really expected him to throw a complete game. But the Angels have an awfully good ballclub and you have to keep them down when they are down.
blessed cursed entire expect face fact meet realize walks
I think every day he walks out and you look at his face you realize you expect too much out of him because he's only 19 years old. He's going to be cursed and blessed his entire career. There are going to be big expectations for him. He's blessed in the fact that he probably can meet those expectations more times than not. It's kind of a double-edged sword.
count expecting firm five four innings love pitch pitches relief
He pitched two innings in relief in Toronto, so we're not expecting 120 pitches from him. But we haven't set a firm pitch count for him yet. We will before he pitches, but I'd love to see four or five innings from him.
ball blowing good homer wind
I know the wind was blowing out, but that ball was spanked, so it probably would have been a homer regardless. And that's good to see.
bragging common deep flowery love tells trying
I'm really trying not to go off the deep end bragging about this guy. I'd love to tell you the flowery things I'm thinking, but common sense tells me I shouldn't go down that road.
ball base coming everybody guys jobs putting scoring supposed
Everyone is doing what they're supposed to do. Guys around our big guys are getting on base and into scoring position, and our big guys are putting the ball in play and coming through. Everybody is doing their jobs offensively.
ball hit wrong
The ball was hit well, just to the wrong place.
barely patty scale
On a scale of 1-10, this is barely a 1. This is patty cake.
guns people problem rather swinging swung walks wonder
After the walks some people will wonder why Carl swung at the first pitch, but I didn't have a problem with it. We had one of our big guns at the plate. I'd rather have him swinging there.
control innings talk
I'm not going to talk about the umpire. Let's talk about something we can control, ... The first two innings were very non-typical of his outings this year.
