I think he has just tons of drive, determination and instincts. He has good ability. I think it's unfair to suggest this guy doesn't have ability. He's a very good athlete. I think his tools were simply underevaluated by the scouts out here.

What we've told our players is (Wright) might be the best pitcher that we will face. And we're playing a great schedule. We're facing some really good pitching. But this guy's on the short list of the best guys in the country.

The one thing that he has done is pitch consistently. It's not overpowering, knock-your-eyes-out kind of stuff, but it's good stuff and he throws strikes. He doesn't get rattled or become afraid, you kind of know what you're getting.

He's another guy that's cool, consistent and not afraid. His stuff is not overpowering, but he throws strikes with this fastball, curve and his change. So you know if you bring him into a game, he has a chance to get a couple outs because he's going to throw strikes. He's been very good for us, particularly against left-handed hitters.

The guy that they're throwing is one of the few guys that we face during the year that's cut from a different cut of the cloth. He is arguably the hardest-throwing guy we'll face. He'll throw it 94, he'll even touch 100. So we never see that, we see good arms, but we never see that.

We were light at the plate last year, there's no doubt about it. I really think we need to have seven .300 hitters (in 2006).

It was very hard-fought ballgame. I'm proud of the way our kids played. They (South Carolina State) did a great job of preventing us from getting the ball to Sanders and Elliott.
