acquainted affect decisions fit players prepare recruit team year
The first year is not easy. You have to get acquainted with the players who are there, recruit new players who fit the system, and prepare the team for every game. Plus, you get to make the game-time decisions which affect the team.
conference expect hard lost people plays team three top wants year
There were a lot of people who didn't expect many things from us this year because we lost three top scorers. But this team plays hard and wants to be successful. We just need to get back to where we started conference play.
coach goal learn perfect prepared year
Your goal is to coach the perfect game, and to have all your players, play the perfect game. That first year is difficult. You can never really be prepared for it. You are going to make mistakes. You just have to learn from those mistakes.
coach game gems guys harder knows nice opportunity perfect players playing rewarded
It is a little harder now, because every coach knows about players, and there aren't many gems who get overlooked. But this game was a perfect opportunity to see what other players could do. It is nice to see these guys get rewarded with playing time.
against complete good players shoot wonderful
He's a good scorer, one of the better players we play against every year. He can shoot it, take you off the dribble. He's a complete player. He's had a wonderful career.
deep point range scoring shoot
He's a scoring point guard. He can really shoot the ball. He has deep range with his shot. He can play an up-tempo style.
band crowd found playoff proud
He doesn't play like a freshman. I'm proud of the way we gutted it out. Being down eight, nine,10, whatever, the crowd was into it, the band was going nuts, somehow, some way, we found a way to win. That's what you've got to do in playoff time.
certainly gave gives
He gave us a jump-lift. We're certainly going to need him. He doesn't always play great, but he gives us energy.
decisions dumb pleased shoot
We made some dumb decisions in the end of the game, but overall, I was pleased with our defense. We didn't shoot well, but we did other things well.
both game says teams terms
I don't know why that is, but everyone says that. But for me, every game is different. In terms of preparation, both teams know each other.
although central hard tough
Central Connecticut is so much like us. It should be a very competitive game. They play hard just like us and, although they are undersized like us, they are tough to beat.
move water
But we need to move on. That is water under the bridge.
closing games good job might
But we just didn't do a good job closing games out. That's disappointing. Part of it is we're young. We're inexperienced. We might tighten up. I'm not sure.
brian chance dealing finding injuries learn looked opportunity player sure
I have always looked at injuries as an opportunity for another player to have a chance to make a difference. Dealing with injuries is part of coaching. You learn that right away when you take over. I am sure Brian (Nash) is finding out about dealing with injuries, too.
