bring focus quality tournament
I'm going to play when I'm healthy, when it's right, ... I try to focus on the quality that I can bring to each tournament that I enter.
amazed expect happy improve matches sitting title
I'm happy and amazed that I'm sitting here winning, ... You never know what to expect when you come back. I'm really happy I got the matches in, (but) I still think there's a lot of things I would like to improve on before the US Open, but to sit here with a title is pretty rewarding.
amazed happy sitting
I'm happy and amazed that I'm sitting here winning,
balls consistent playing
I mean, when she's playing consistent and she can make more balls than she's missing, she's playing tough.
argue deserve disrespect low priority saying
I'm not going to argue that I deserve to be No. 1. I don't want to disrespect it by saying it's low on the priority, but it's not up in my priority list.
definitely next quicker start
I'm definitely going to have to do something to try to get off to a quicker start in the next match,
gets grand maybe proud top tough year
I'm really proud of myself that I'm so consistent. But it gets tough to be at the top year after year and not have one of the Grand Slams. Maybe I'll still get lucky.
bizarre extra feeling hit knew match pride walking
I knew before the match started that I was in. It was a bizarre feeling walking out. It was hard. There are no ranking points, no extra money, nothing like that. That's a shame. But when I started losing, pride hit me.
argue changed guess
I guess you could argue that. That changed drastically when they started seeding 32,
best conditions improve plays second settle took
I'm never one that necessarily plays their best right off the bat. It took a little while to settle into the conditions and how Rika plays, but I do feel I started to improve some things in the second set.
ball best despite knew playing striking win
I knew it would be tough, ... I didn't feel I was playing my best or striking the ball that well, but I still managed to win despite the circumstances.
break felt knew played rusty trying
I knew I'd be rusty and trying to find my rhythm. I felt I got a break at 4-4 in the first set. After that, I played calmer and more consistent.
chances knew
I knew that if it wasn't in two sets, that my chances were significantly reduced.
happy healthy matches obviously positive ready rust test tournament week win
I'm really happy that I was able to come here and get through these matches and still feel healthy and ready to go to New York, ... This was a big test for my back. I think it was real important just to play some matches and get the rust out of my game. Obviously to win this tournament is a bonus. Overall, the week was nothing but a positive for me.
