We had the opportunity to win at doubles. We really had the match going our way, but we couldn't close.

It's going to be a totally different match (than the one in the regular season) because were going to be playing outdoors. Some of their players have been playing good at the end of the season, and some of our players have struggled the last two weeks. I think it's anybody's match.

We knew we were going to have two very tough matches at the top two (singles positions).

We were a little rusty. We played well in spots, but you could tell we hadn't played a match in two weeks.

I think the difference in the match may have come down to playing doubles inside. They play very aggressive doubles, and it really helped them being inside because they've got some girls that hit the ball with a lot of power.

Overall, I am pleased with today. We didn't play as well in doubles as we can and that was disappointing. However, we played extremely well in singles. I thought that we played UNC the best that we have played any top-20 team this season, let alone a top-10 team. We matched up well against North Carolina. It was a matter of believing that we can compete with top teams, and I think we proved that to ourselves today.

Brianna and Sigrid did especially well because (Penn State) has been winning at the three, four and five positions. It was a good start to the Big Ten season.

We played twice last season and split matches. I wouldn't doubt if the singles split this weekend. The doubles point is going to be very important for both teams.

We have to play awfully well (to win). I think if we get off to a good start, it will be a good match.

That wasn't a surprise. Those two Russian girls are very good players.
college dual freshmen great tennis
I thought it was a great day for our freshmen to get used to college tennis and dual matches.
