advantage brutal favor lead throw
It was working to our advantage. He couldn't throw strikes. It's a big lead to overcome, though. Brutal conditions, but it was working in our favor at the moment.
himself leagues minor push throw whether
Personally, I don't see him making that start. He has to come out and throw in the 'pen but whether he can push himself out there to really know, we don't know. If (he can't go) we'll have to go down to the minor leagues (for a replacement).
brian gets ok pull supportive throw whoever wins
Brian and I are friends, and we throw a lot together, ... Whoever wins the spot, we'll be supportive of each other. If he gets it, I would be OK with that. We pull for each other.
sake throw throwing
We don't want to throw him out there just for the sake of throwing him out there.
anybody earned five throws towers
Towers has come into his own. He competes as well as anybody out there. He throws strikes. He's a winner. He's always been an underdog, but he's earned it to be one of the five guys.
affecting honest location sure throw time year
I think he may be a little tired, to be honest with you. He's in his first year doing it. I think what's affecting him right now is his location -- and you usually don't see it in velocity, you see it in location. ... At this time of year, definitely, you've got to make sure you don't just throw him out there when he may not be at his best.
boston bring field keeping messing pitch pitches suppose threw throw track
I suppose we could bring him back and let him pitch in Boston (next week) but he only threw 32 pitches the other day (against Triple-A Syracuse) and I don't think he'll throw a whole lot more (Thursday). I like keeping him on track to pitch on the 16th (at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago) without messing it up.
ahead coming expect spring throw
We kind of had (Janssen) ahead coming out of spring training. Experience-wise they're all pretty similar. You know (Janssen) is going to come up and throw strikes, you expect him too anyway. It's his opportunity.
happened move second throwing time
It's big, it's the second time it's happened to him. Nothing you can do about it, you've got to move on. . . . He was throwing good, he was throwing hard.
argument few rookies throw valid winning
He's got a valid argument for winning that thing. Very few rookies throw 200 innings,
arm corner couple gone gotten nice second spin stretching throws
He's gone into the corner a couple times pretty good, made a couple nice spin throws to second base. I can see his arm has already gotten better. He's stretching it out a little bit. He's doing OK.
hopefully miles per throwing
He's going to be really excited, probably throwing 100. Hopefully it's 100 strikes. He'll probably be throwing 100 miles per hour.
ahead ball bring found game good groove hit kept missing pitch pitches throwing
He's got to pitch ahead to be effective. He was throwing some pitches and he wasn't missing by much if he was missing. When he had to bring it over the plate, they hit him. Then after that, he kind of found his groove and pitched a good ball game and kept us in it from there on.
ahead ball breaking fastball throwing tough
He's become a better pitcher. He's throwing more strikes. He's got a better feel for that breaking ball now, and he's locating his fastball better. He's ahead more and he's been real tough on right-handers.
