camps thoughts
You don't see camps like this. You have thoughts on who's going to be where, but there are no guarantees. Everything comes down to one big competition.
ask both few gave good guys opportunity pitching win
There was some really good pitching from both sides. I think there were a few jitters from our side, but for the most part, our guys gave us an opportunity to win that game. I think every day, that's all you can ask for.
best counts kept knows talked team
There were too many 2-0 counts for him today. He knows that. But he kept us in the game. We talked about that during the season. Sometimes you're not going to have your best stuff, but you have to keep your team in the game. He kept us in the game.
announce case until
Anything is possible, but we pretty much have the 25-man roster. We probably won't announce it until we leave, in case something comes up.
anytime both continue drive fine hit lead runs three
Anytime our shortstops want to drive in three runs in a game, that's fine with me. Andino had a big hit at the end. That three-run lead is a lot different than a two-run lead in that situation. They continue to both play very well.
believe job sort teach
As a player, it?s you?re job to play when called upon. As a coach, I believe it?s your job to teach and to make suggestions. But now you have to sort through all those suggestions. It?s different.
believe catcher manage
As a catcher I believe you manage every day you're on the field.
believe extension field manage
As a catcher, I believe you manage every day you go on the field because you are an extension of the manager,
besides bullpen center directors farm grow guys left maybe mean means press public reason second top
The bullpen guys are going to have to grow up just like the starters, just like our shortstop, second baseman, first baseman, right, center and left fielders probably. It's OK. Just because a guy is young doesn't mean he can't play. It just means that no one in the public besides maybe farm directors and the press know who they are. They can still play. There's a reason that they are top prospects.
costs mistake rolling seems supposed
This isn't supposed to happen. You're up 5-1 and we're rolling along. It's frustrating. It seems like any mistake we make costs us.
doubt good miss provide
The WBC will provide a lot of excitement, so it's a good thing, but I'm going to miss my players, no doubt about it.
course difficult entire joe learned mind players season
The most important thing I learned from Joe was how important it is to know your players on and off the field, ... It's a long season and there's a lot of things that come up through the course of the season that can make it difficult to go out and have your entire mind on the game.
easy good job manage managing people players press
Some people always say (managing the Yankees) is an easy job because of all the players you're given. But that's not an easy job, because you're managing personalities, the press ... there's a lot to manage there and Joe's really good at it.
early love players sit
So when you get the composition of your team, you sit back and find out early what your players can do and you do that. But I love to be aggressive. That's the one thing I can tell you.
