kick missing pitches scratch win
I'm getting my pitches and I'm not missing them. This was a big win for us. We had to kick and scratch for everything.
ball base good hitting pitch running stay strike valuable walks within
I'm just going to stay within my strike zone. I can be just as valuable getting on base with my walks and running up pitch counts. I'll stay selective. I feel good at the plate, and I'll keep hitting the ball hard.
against bags ball guys pitchers steal throw
They have guys that steal bags and put the ball in play, and they have pitchers that throw the ball well against us.
hit knew location pitch slider trouble
It was a slider that didn't slide, the same pitch he hit off me before. I knew the location of this pitch was trouble when I let it go.
against ball beat club easily gotten last pitcher taste turned turns veteran
Without the veteran ball club we have, we could have very easily gotten swept, especially against a pitcher like Brad. They beat Mo last night, and this could have turned into a disaster. You give away a game, then get beat, and it turns into something bad. We got the taste out of our mouths.
ask gave great matched pitching start zero
He was unbelievable. He gave us the start we needed. (John) Lackey was pitching great and Shawn matched him zero for zero. For his first postseason start, you can't ask for more.

He was unbelievable, ... He gave us the start we needed. (John) Lackey was pitching great and Shawn matched him zero for zero. For his first postseason start, you can't ask for more.
fifth game pitch pitcher pitches run starting theory throw
That was our big theory when I was with Oakland. Run up the guy's pitch counts, 'cause then you get the starting pitcher out of the game in the fifth inning. You're making him throw 100 pitches and he's gone.
anybody eventually pitchers room runs score team walks work
That's the way this team works. We score a lot of runs in one inning because we work pitchers and work walks and eventually there is no room to put anybody else.
ball few game good hit pitch taking trying
The game slows, ... I don't overanalyze. I just try to get a good pitch and hit it. Even when I cooled off after July, I was still taking good at-bats. I'm just trying to hit the ball hard. Tonight, I got a few mistakes.
baseball game teams totally
I know we like to think baseball is America's game, but that isn't totally true. There are some teams out there that can play this game pretty well.
couple good hit mistakes trying
I'm just trying to go up there and get a good pitch, ... I got a couple of mistakes and was able to hit them hard.
bat matters playing swinging
I'm just swinging the bat and playing the game. I haven't really thought about it. If I'm swinging the bat good, so I don't think it matters where I'm playing.
adversity face fall love man players somebody stand tall ticking tough town
Every New Yorker, they love to see somebody face adversity and still stand tall and not fall by the wayside. They like to see you man up and you take your beating, but you just keep going and ticking and keep working hard. And they love those stories. It's a tough town here, it really is, and a lot of players fall by the wayside out here.
