That was a Yankee Stadium homer, for sure,
fifth game pitch pitcher pitches run starting theory throw
That was our big theory when I was with Oakland. Run up the guy's pitch counts, 'cause then you get the starting pitcher out of the game in the fifth inning. You're making him throw 100 pitches and he's gone.
gets gives opportunity player run scores
That's what he does best. That's what makes him the player that he is: He gets on base. He scores runs. He gives you an opportunity to score a run when he gets on.
anybody eventually pitchers room runs score team walks work
That's the way this team works. We score a lot of runs in one inning because we work pitchers and work walks and eventually there is no room to put anybody else.
ball huge latin winter
That's true, but winter ball is really huge for some of the Latin American countries.
breaking good roll trying
I was trying to get him to roll over, ... I got a lot of outs on my breaking ball. It was a good pitch.
andy good gotten great
I still get bored, but I don't mind. I've never been very good at it. It's good for me to sometimes get some rest, though. It's gotten Andy some at-bats, which is good, because he's a great player.
bad break drive fell hard hitter injury kept knee last paid playing reason runs worked
I think I can be a .300 hitter and drive in 100 runs again, definitely. When I had a knee injury (in 2003) I kept playing but I fell into a lot of bad habits. I've worked with Donnie to break those, and I think that hard work paid off last summer. I see no reason why I can't do the things I did before.
bad best career great harder helped win wins
I think he was harder on himself. He wanted to come in here and win 25 games. He battled for us, and even when he didn't have his best stuff, he helped us win. You know you've had a great career when 17 wins is a bad year.
break hit open seem
We just couldn't seem to get the big hit to break open games.
batting encouraged encouragement excited few friend good great guy hitter include johnny last natural next places preferred presence return sign spoke strongly teammate week whose year
Johnny and I spoke a few times over the last week and I strongly encouraged him to sign with the Yankees. It is good to know that our lineup next year will include a natural leadoff hitter whose presence allows Jeter and A-Rod to return to their preferred places in the batting order. Johnny is a good friend and a great guy to have in the clubhouse. I am very excited about having him as a teammate again.
great playing time
I'm still playing the game, having a great time.
ball brad easily momentum swing throwing turned
We could have easily had the momentum swing and just got swept, especially with Brad Radke on the mound. He's been throwing the ball (well). We could have easily turned this into a disaster.
disaster easily gotten momentum swing turned
We could have easily had the momentum swing and gotten swept. We could have turned this into a disaster.
