This thing is not going to drag on, let me just put it that way.
There's still hope. We're not mathematically eliminated. But we're in a pretty good hole now.
There's no real problem. At that moment, at that that time, I expected a little different reaction from him. He said he was only mad at himself -- he had an opportunity and let it slip away.
There's no way you could've asked more of him,
The time for forgiveness and overlooking and waiting is over because you just don't have those numbers of games left. We got to have people going out there now doing the job, not hoping they are doing it.
I've been preaching to the guys out there, if you . . . keep making these silly mistakes, it comes back to haunt you in close ballgames, ballgames you should win, ... You're taking away opportunities from yourselves. We're beating ourselves more often than we're getting beat.
It would have been really fairy tale if we could have pulled this thing off. They wouldn't have even touched this in Hollywood.
Things are starting to come together. Like I told you guys, it was very important that we got something going before we dug a deep hole for ourselves. It takes an awful lot to come out of that. Slowly, we're starting to do that.
There would've probably been three or four moves today if we had the opportunity to do it.
It would be water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.
It was the situation, and I understood. Still, to get into December without a contract, it gets a little worrisome.
It was unbelievable the way he pitched. His record should have been better. It took some growing up on the mound, understanding the situation, the pitches and the sequences of attacking the hitter. He is kind of strong-willed. We had to kind of fight through that wall of his to see it our way.
The way we're going, ... if I called up another pitcher, he'd just hang up the phone on me.
The way we played and have been playing is what prompted the meeting. I don't like the overall results. We're not doing the things we're capable of doing.
