What I think they've done the last three days is play the way they're capable of playing. Their attention is now on baseball itself and not a lot of outside stuff, and it's starting to show up on the field.
What it becomes is that you expect something is going to happen because you keep losing, ... You're going to make a bad play, you're going to make a bad throw, you're going to give up a home run. You expect to lose. That's what it is.
What we said when we sent him down was, 'Go down, get yourself going.' Did he do that? No. We just feel like he has proven he can hit up here before. ... We said we'll give him the first shot. Maybe he'll get going up here.
We understand where he's coming from. He's been an All-Star second baseman. He is one of the best players in baseball because of his offense at that position... Moving your family and getting adjusted - it plays on a guy's mind.
We still have a chance, and we'll keep battling until someone tells us, 'You're out of it,'
Yeah, I can appreciate it. You just make a slight mistake with him and don't get the ball exactly where you want it, he makes you pay.
Yeah, ... But I don't know how old I'll be.
We know more about Alfonso now than we did before. We understand where he's coming from. We've got some things to think about, and he has some things to think about. We'll get it done.
We'll go through the whole staff again tomorrow. I'm not thinking long term, right now. I'm thinking about trying to win that one tomorrow. It's going to be a handful in itself.
We'll go through the whole staff again tomorrow.
You'd like to see him a little bit more in control, ... and understand, especially in this situation, the importance of having everybody available here and not being without one of your better players for any type of time, even if it's one game.
We don't have to get that far ahead. That's a long way off.
We don't have the type of offense--I don't care if we are on track--to overcome that on a daily basis and we are not giving ourselves a chance to do anything because we are giving up the runs early.
We're losing ballgames that we should be winning, ... and pretty soon it will be too late.
