battle case expect happens needed offense position ready second speed team tried turn ways
We tried to turn it into a position to see if we can get our second team ready in case something happens to Brent. We had a battle there and we still have a long ways to go. The speed of our offense wasn't what we needed and what we expect to have with Brent.
defense freshman physically ready run seconds studying
Well, he got ready in about two seconds on the sidelines. I think with about a week's preparation, he will be as ready as we can get a freshman ready. He is physically talented, and he has been studying our defense. We may not be able to do as many things as we could with Patrick, but I think we can run our defense with (Russell) in there.
gained guys
When you play football, those things are going to happen. But we have some guys who have gained some experience, so we'll be fine.
guys
When you play ball, that's going to happen. We've got some guys that are experienced. We're going to be fine.
chance excited great lots
We had a chance to look at the film and lots of corrections need to be made. We are excited to go out and have a great practice.
half improve needed others positions
We need as many (freshmen) that are able to play. Realistically, we're probably going to play at least half of that class. Some positions we needed to get better at. Others we needed to improve our depth.
defense hopefully mentally physically ready run spell
Physically he's ready to play, but mentally he's not, ... Patrick Willis is going to have to play most of the snaps. Hopefully we can spell him once in a while, but Robert's not ready to run our whole defense yet.
against ball designed hit last offense run
Our offense is designed to run against eight-man fronts, and we just didn't get it done, ... We're going to have to take the opportunities to hit the long ball downfield too. They were there last week, and we just didn't hit them.
basic brought california coach hopefully offense parts spend time work
I think we need to get back to the basic fundamental parts of our offense that I brought with us from USC, ... I was able to spend some time in California with Coach Carroll and those guys. Hopefully we can work out some of the kinks we have on offense.
cause happen pick run
That will never happen in my program. I will never do that. Too many things can happen. You can cause a fumble and pick it up and run for a touchdown.
best chart continue guys justin opportunity sparks week
Justin Sparks had an opportunity to show us what he could do, but he's been really inconsistent. We will continue through the week with the guys that we have, chart them and see who does the best job, then play that guy.
build continue great ground players program staff system together within work
I will build this program from the ground up, get my players in here, get my staff in here together and continue to work within the system to build a great program.
couple defense excuse fitting good guys including needs passing players run
Our run defense has not done well, and there is no excuse for that. We aren't fitting well, and we have a couple of new players in there, who aren't as good as the guys who are injured. On offense, our passing game, including the protection, is not where it needs to be.
chance michael obvious robert
Robert had his chance, ... He may have his chance again, but right now, I feel Michael Spurlock is the better quarterback. It was obvious tonight.
