Any time you go against Greg, runs are going to be at a premium. I don't care what his numbers say, ... He and I have pitched some games in the past just like this. You have to do everything correct fundamentally. You just have to push to be the first team to score.
This team knows how to bounce back in tough situations.
You can't cost your team games trying to learn a job. You can't do that. There's no excuse for what happened.
Both of these teams went through a lot this year. To be where we are says as much about the people as it does about the talent.
Somebody on this team wants me to get booed to make them feel better, and that really bothers me a lot,
The things I was allowed to experience, the people I was able to call friends, teammates, mentors, coaches and opponents, the travel, all of it, are far more than anything I ever thought possible in my lifetime.
I've had teammates I didn't get along with, who hasn't? I've never had a teammate call me a bad guy, while he was my teammate, and if he did when I was gone what kind of teammate was he anyway?
I played on teams with 24 guys pulling the rope one way and one guy pulling the other. I've seen how destructive it can be. I tell them, 'If 13 of you are insanely successful and one fails, we all lose.'
I really believe that in our division, the team whose rotation and pitching staff stays off the disabled list is going to be the team that's on top at the end of the year.
I had a feeling coming into this game, that if they watched my last start, which a lot of teams do,
The only disappointment is from my end. People will bash the manager for leaving me in there, but it came down to me not making pitches. It was personally disappointing, but a great team win.
Some guys (came) as advertised. C.C. (Coco Crisp) at the top of the lineup, Mark generating runs, David doing what David always does, Coco made a great catch in the ninth inning. This is a very good team. Offensively, we?re going to give you nine at-bats that are going to wear you out. Later in the game, the third time through this lineup, it?s very tough to get this team out.
I think I can help us win one, but if I don't get back and throw dominating baseball, this team can still win a World Series.
I'm trying to pitch aggressively in now. It's something I've always needed to do. I've never really been efficient at it and I'm going to change that this year.
