ankle broken fairly fit separation shoulder temporary
I think Claudio is fairly fit right now. Getting over the broken ankle was big. His ankle now is sound, so that's a positive. I think the shoulder separation is a temporary setback.
based capable certainly fitness full good johnson match played playing previous question role selecting
The previous match played no role in selecting this roster. It was based on fitness and form. We thought this was a good group. We know Bocanegra and Johnson are certainly capable of playing (a full game), but Beasley is still something of a question mark.
basically fitter minutes team
We basically choreographed this game. The team that's the fitter team is our team. Over 90 minutes it was going to be obvious. After 35 minutes you could see they were basically done.
certainly close efforts fans fitting front game great held hopeful last match pleased process qualify supported supporting tradition
It's only fitting that our last game in 2005 is being held in a place that has such a great tradition of supporting U.S. Soccer. We are certainly hopeful that this match will be a celebration of our efforts to qualify for the World Cup, and we're pleased to close out the process in front of fans who have supported us so well over the years.
belt bunch clearly club couple deals expect fits games good kid needs plays point regular sees talented talk team
He's a talented kid who is very inexperienced and young so you can't expect too much at this point in time. He's 16 years old any way you look at it. You talk about patience, he clearly needs that. He needs to get a couple of good years under his belt with his club team where he fits in as a regular and sees a bunch of 90-minute games and plays well and deals with all of that. Right now, he has a long way to go.
fit good looks ready
He looks healthy, fit and ready to go. For him, personally, it was a good move.
couple final fit healthy improvement months next obviously player quality rush steady strong
If he's healthy we have two months to see if he can get fit to play in a World Cup. It's not like we need to rush him back into everything. We know the kind of player he is. There's a lot of quality there and if, over the next couple of weeks, we see steady improvement he's obviously going to get pretty strong consideration for the final roster.
coach couple dividends fitness hopefully minutes next pays run
You can run around all you want with a fitness coach but you have to play games. Getting 90 minutes in is valuable. Hopefully that pays some dividends these next couple of games.
acquired best bright certainly cup eddie expect expected great hopeful injury moving next people player reputation soccer time
We see in Eddie a player with great potential, and certainly the injury put him back. He acquired a reputation that people expected a lot out of him, and I'm not copping out of that. We do expect a lot of Eddie, but at the same time he's a young player and he's getting there. His best soccer is probably for the next World Cup in all honestly. He's got a bright future, and we're hopeful he's moving forward.
basically brian couple decent game goal good half second
The second goal by Ching right at the end of the half basically put the game away. I think Brian did well. He established a couple of decent goal-scoring opportunities. Overall, it was a good performance.
critical high note players promising results start strategies win year
The results in Guatemala and Costa Rica were not that critical to me. This one (against Panama) is. This is the one I want to win so we can end the year on a high note and at the same time, give some promising players some opportunities to play and start formulating some strategies for 2006.
critical defeat high results year
The results in Guatemala (0-0) and Costa Rica (3-0 defeat) were not as critical to me. This one is. We want to end the year on a high note.
domestic fatigue games kick number players
Our domestic players, who are still out of season, are very unfit for games at this level. You could see the fatigue set in for a number of our domestic players kick at about the 65 to 70-minute mark.
clearly due eddie four john neither nor players year
We went through an important year in 2005 where neither Eddie Johnson, John O'Brien, Claudio Reyna nor Cory Gibbs were around much due to injuries, and those are four players that you would think are clearly going to be on our roster for Germany.
