You have to believe you're great. You have to have an air about you. My success wasn't because I was a great talent, but because I wanted it more than anybody else. Every minute I step on that field, I want to prove I'm the best player in the league.
Every game I've ever played, regardless if it was pre-season or Super Bowl, meant the same to me, and I laid it all on the line.
We have to get something going and have a short time to get there, ... I couldn't go out like that. If you're going to go back in, do something good.
Until power is hooked back up, until there are places where you can go get gas and you can go get something to eat, I'm better off being here.
As a coach, they would love to sit there and say, 'It's going to be five steps, you're going to hitch up into a perfect pocket, you're going to look at number one - no; you're going to go to number two - no.' It doesn't work that way.
I, most talented players don't always succeed. Some don't even make the team. It's more what's inside.
Times have changed for me, and I do have a family and other things to deal with, but I do still love this game,
You have to play with the mentality that you are about to lose your job, and that they're going to talk about 'The Other Guy' first. You have to think, 'I want my name mentioned first.'
They have nowhere to go. There's no power. When they will get power? They're saying two months, ... If you're first in the line, it may be a week. If you're last, it may be two months. Where they start and where they finish, I don't know.
As bad as I hate to admit it, age is working against me, as it works against everyone, ... But, if you can help it, you can't afford to be slow. Not one step.
This is really a lot like the tsunami on a smaller scale, ... Rebuilding is going to take not weeks, not months, not years. Two years? No. Ten years? Maybe.
Off the field, he did so much for so many people. He really reached a lot of people. ... He was a great friend on and off the field. We'll all miss him.
I said, 'Are you ready for Daddy to quit football?' She said, 'Yeah, I'm ready for you to quit playing football so you can live with us (Deanna and the two girls) full-time in Mississippi.'
I said, 'You know, Darrell, if I decide to come back, I feel like the last two or three years, I cheated myself - which obviously ends up cheating your teammates - as far as being in the best shape physically and mentally that you can possibly be in,'
