We win and lose as a team ... I'm as proud of these guys ... We left our guts on the field.
The win is obviously the most important thing right now, ... The record is something I'll certainly think about once this whole thing is over.
There's probably eight or nine teams that are legitimate World Series contenders in the American League, and that's very unique because you probably haven't had that in over 20 years. There is great parity in the American League. There are probably three teams in each division that can potentially win the World Series.
We could win three World Series, with me it's never going to be over. My benchmark is so high, whatever I do it's never going to be enough and I understand that. Maybe when I retire is when all the critics and all that stuff is going to end.
We don't want to put ourselves in the situation we did last year. We put ourselves in way too big of a hole, and it was a miracle that we were able to come back and win the division. We know every loss in April shows up in September and late August.
We can win three World Series, with me it's never going to be over. No matter what I do, it's never going to be enough. I understand that. It's not going to change my approach to the game.
I think defence, for the most part, being a balanced player and also saving a lot of runs on the defensive side, I think was a major factor here. To me, defence is foremost. It's always been. The White Sox showed us this year pitching and defense wins to this day.
We have to win these games. We can't have Tampa come in and win two out of three in our home,
Friday was a demoralizing loss. To get two wins going into the off-day and a tough Tampa series, it's good for our psyche.
I expressed to him that, as important as winning this thing is, my preparation for the season is the most important thing. Any time you're on the field, representing the U.S., it's an enormous responsibility; but for me, my whole goal in life is to win a world championship, and nothing goes in front of that.
Obviously, October is something I need to improve on this year. Winning a World Series, that drives me to the core.
Now we can go and try to win in New York, and try to go to the next level.
I love being out on the field, ... I feel it's an important part of us winning games is being out on the field, being consistent and playing both sides of the ball.
To me that was like hitting a walk-off grand slam. That was fun. With Mo being out today that was a huge win for us.
