Some Western North Carolina farmers who have been selling commodity crops are not pleased with the prices they've been getting. Many are now looking for new markets and new ways to diversify their income, control the price they get for what they grow, and stay in farming. We are fortunate in Western North Carolina because we have many family farms and a community of people and businesses that wants locally grown food. This conference aims to give farmers the skills they need to reach these markets successfully.

Warehouse clubs started the whole revolution in packaging. There are no fancy displays or staff. It's barebones. What the clubs want to be able to do is put (the products) on a fork lift, crack open the box, slice the top off and hang up these perfectly symmetrical clamshells. It protects the package, shows off the products, travels well and protects against thieves.

There's no way around it. Over here, if you want to sell a lot of records, you have to go to local radio stations in Dayton, Ohio, and shake the hands of men with satin jackets.

That was a devastating, horrible thing. I felt so badly for him. I had met his brother a couple of times, and he was a nice boy, really funny. It was just horrible. I don't think anybody saw it coming at all.

I was really happy because it showed we have some real hard core hockey fans in Greenville. If we have to come back and play on Wednesday, I hope even more people will come out.
