We had a waiting list then and we hope to have another one soon. Even though we lost some folks over the years, that group remains our largest.

When I had (Lauren) Tanner and them, that (zone) was actually what they did. When (this team) was in junior high, that's what they did. They haven't played it varsity as much, but they know what we have to do and where we have to go. (Claiborne) is a good basketball team, and (three players) can shoot the lights out. Our kids knew that. We didn't give them any good looks, and they had to work for everything they got.

There is a real historic opportunity to take what has obviously been just a terrible thing and create something good out of it. If the business-as-usual, adult-centered agenda rules the day, it would be a real tragedy for the students in New Orleans. People around the nation who are poised to help bring resources to the table might turn their attention to other places.

We really have to start planning in January. It is a lot of preparation, but once it's all out here, everybody knows what they're supposed to do. And without those inmates, it would be very difficult to put this all up. They help us out tremendously.
