It was a great honor to be able to do that.
It just puts a little added pressure. You want to find out if you've still got it and get out there and help the club. But they come in spurts, so you've got to be ready.
It's an option that you knew was lurking out there.
It's gone through my mind that I could be leaving, ... I'd love to tell you I'll be here for the next three years, but with (CEO) Sandy Alderson coming in, we know he has a history of not wanting to go with multiyear deals with older players, particular pitchers. We'll see. But I really don't want to see me in another uniform.
It might be a little more subdued, but we'd still be winning a title. Everyone can say what they want about how bad it looks. It would be like persevering to get a college degree. Whether it takes four years or six years, you've still accomplished something.
This is where I'll live the rest of my life. I'd like to play here the rest of my career.
They're all tough. This is a different situation when your horse is out there and pitches his butt off. My job is to nail it down.
That just showed the all-out effort he's given all season, on one play,
It's been seven long years. Take a look around I don't think anybody cares about our record. Regardless of what our record was, these guys played like it was playoff baseball. So hopefully we're gaining momentum.
It's gotten old. Regardless of what your stance is on what he's done, how he did it, whether he was enhanced or not enhanced, I think a lot of players and people in general are fed up with the constant talk surrounding this. The guy's coming up on some immortal names, Ruth and Aaron, yet there isn't the sense of celebration that's usually attached to great feats.
It's my job to nail it down. Unfortunately, it provided a little bit of momentum for these guys going into tomorrow.
They had a guy by the name of Barry Larkin ,
You don't get that charge of being a complete team, walking away from the field with that winning feeling. Half the time you're walking away pissed off about the things you didn't do right.
He asked me for some identification and I couldn't understand why he would be doing that.
