capture earnings humanistic level reacting usual
While the capture is important on a humanistic level for the market, after reacting to it overnight, we're back to the usual focus: earnings and the economy.
bad earnings general mix people reason run sort tremendous using
Lexmark was bad, 3M was good, and in general you've had that today, with the mix of earnings sort of canceling each other out, ... I think people are using this as a reason to take profits, particularly after the tremendous run we've had, and I don't think that's a bad thing.
downside earnings hold line nasty stay surprise
We've had a lot of earnings that have been in line or better, and the Street's been yawning. If the earnings stay strong, we could hold at these levels, but any nasty downside surprise and we could see some selling.
activity earnings economic extension japan last led money morning natural news people seems selling staggering table taking terrorist turkey until week weekend
It seems to be some natural selling, an extension of last week ... Terrorist activity over the weekend in Turkey led to selling in Japan and selling here; the earnings this morning were mixed, and you have no staggering economic news until Thursday, so people are taking some money off the table right now.
actual biggest both days earnings economic focusing generally gm guidance ibm negative numbers people putting seems
It seems that GM put a damper on things with some negative comments, and the economic numbers were a little weaker. They are both putting an overhang on the IBM news, which was generally positive. This is one of the biggest earnings days we have -- and people are going to be focusing more on the guidance than they are the actual earnings.
concerns earnings oil prices scaring
We've got earnings concerns today, and oil prices are still scaring everyone.
drift earnings meat summer tough
Augusts are tough months. We've pretty much got the meat of the earnings out of the way, and now we've got to drift through the summer doldrums.
drift earnings meat summer tough
Augusts are tough months, ... We've pretty much got the meat of the earnings out of the way, and now we've got to drift through the summer doldrums.
earnings expected maybe meaningful people sitting waiting
I think a lot of people are sitting on their hands, waiting for a little more meaningful earnings reports, ... Alcoa was better than expected and we have GE earnings at the end of the week, so maybe that will give us some direction.
busy earnings economic impetus last later less move news today until week
Last week was very busy and I think today there is less impetus to move. There's no earnings news, no economic news until later in the week, and so there's nothing really to move us.
action ahead amount approach due earnings economic last later news nice people run sideways taking week
I think we're going to see some sideways action this week. We had a nice run last week and there's a significant amount of economic and earnings news due out later in the week. I think people are taking a 'wait and see' approach ahead of that.
earnings expected market receptive stock
Generally, earnings are better than expected and I think the stock market is receptive to that.
continue earnings last less nice october rally rallying reports since supporting time week
This is more or less a continuation of the October effect. Since about mid-October, we've been rallying and that's traditionally the time you're going to see that. We've had some nice earnings reports in the last week supporting a rally and we're probably going to continue to see that.
confidence consumer earnings given impression lack morning negative people
The consumer confidence (index) this morning was better than expected, and the lack of negative pre-announcements has given people the impression that first-quarter earnings are going to be good.
