opportunity single
You just try to make the most of every single opportunity in the postseason. We weren't able to do it this year.
best fair foot forward generous offer
We put our best foot forward and made an offer that makes sense to the club. We think it's a fair and generous offer.
build certainly club expecting factors game huge level next number obviously options role stretch took weigh
I think Manny is obviously a huge part of this club. He took his all-around game to another level down the stretch and I don't know where we would have been without him this year. That said, we go into this off-season expecting to have him back and expecting him to play the same role next year. Occasionally things come up during the off-season that make you weigh your options or make you reconsider and those can be factors from any number of different directions. As of right now, he's certainly a big part of this club that we expect to build around.
honest last ourselves reflecting talks whether
had a lot of honest talks in that last week, reflecting on ourselves and the organization and the job, and whether it was right for me and for the team.
admire amount class field gotten handled himself huge owe personal red safe series throughout time won
From a personal standpoint, I really admire Bronson. I have gotten to know him really well, and that made it difficult. From an organizational standpoint, we owe a lot to Bronson ..I think it?s safe to say we would not have won the (2004) World Series without him. He?s handled himself with a huge amount of class on and off the field throughout his time as a Red Sox.
adversity fact helped overcome regular season team
I don't think you ever want to see your team struggle. I think the fact that we had to overcome adversity during the regular season probably helped us.
both difficult season survived teams ways
I don't think it's predestined. This season for a lot of teams in a lot of ways has been about survival. We've both survived in probably the most difficult division.
I don't know where we would have been without him this year.
applaud series won
I'd like to see them applaud him in recognition of all he accomplished here. We wouldn't have won the World Series without him.
again baseball believe burned care dedication general goal help immediate leadership managers operations passion position ready rest staff transition tremendous week
No, I am not burned out, ... I have tremendous passion for the game. I have tremendous dedication to the game. I believe that I will find myself in a position of leadership with an organization again in the future, but I have no immediate plans. My goal for the rest of this week is to help the organization with the transition and to help the baseball operations staff that I care so much about get ready for the general managers meetings.
dedicated laugh resources trying wins
Ninety-five wins is nothing to laugh at. All the resources of this organization are going to be dedicated to trying to win 11 more games.
fans helped intense loose red since team
Since Red Sox fans are so intense and baseball's a long, 162-game season, it helped that this team was as loose as it was, ... If this team was as intense as its fans, it could have been too serious, too overbearing for everyone.
deal feeling felt great guy hard knee ready spring
You have to go on how a guy feels. His knee felt great in Spring Training. It's hard to say if he was ready or not. He's not ready now. He was feeling really good. Now he can't even take the ball. You've got to deal with it.
baseball both division exercise matter past point reasons rest series survived toughest wins year
This year, for a lot reasons and for a lot of teams, has been an exercise in survival. Getting past the attrition of a long year for a lot of different reasons. We both survived in probably the toughest division in baseball to get to a point where whomever wins that series will probably get in. It doesn't matter how we got here. It's what we do the rest of the way.
