Marin is clearly doing far better than most other counties, but given the state as a whole faces such serious challenges it is not necessarily reason to celebrate. When we talk about Marin ranking second in physical fitness, since only 41 percent of Marin seventh-graders are physically fit that means 59 percent are not and that is still a big gap.

Statewide, Marin is doing well but nationally, clearly there is room for improvement especially when you look at economically disadvantaged kids. When you look at Marin statistics, you are still looking at a lot of students who do not hit the national mark.
