Shaun Edward Alexanderis a former American football running back who played for the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins of the National Football League. I think last year was made more dramatic than it really was to me and Mike. Everybody in this whole organization, their big goal is to win a bunch of games, go undefeated here at home, get to the Super Bowl and see what happens. When everybody has that as their goal, it eliminates all the other personal goals.
Some of it seems like it is going to go fast, then some of it is going to go slow by next Thursday before the game. We are going to enjoy where we are, but we know that our only goal is for (Super Bowl) Sunday.
My first day here, just like my first day at Alabama, I went and got the record books and looked it all up. It was like, 'OK, how hard is it going to be for me to get this thing?' I started setting goals to get them fast.
We know it is there. It is one of those things - our goal is to not just win a game, but it is to get to the Super Bowl. That is just another streak that has to come to an end. We are going to have to prepare and get ready to play a great game for that to happen.
I never really thought about whether it could be done or not, because awards are exciting but they're not the end-all, be-all. Being 13-3 was a goal for us ... Those all come with setting the first goal, which is being good.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but if you just set one goal -- 'We're destroying everyone and winning the Super Bowl' -- then that's just it. It's win or lose.
I don't live my life trying to prove anything. I set high goals for myself. I set high goals for my team, and as a group, we just try to achieve them. Contracts are contracts. They're just part of the business that's after football, but it has nothing to do with what we do on the field.
We were really enjoying the laughs. All that is part of this experience.
