It's something that you deal with. We have good leadership in this room, so we'll be more than OK in that area. Something like this makes you realize that hockey isn't important in the grand scheme of things, and our thoughts and prayers are with the whole Gretzky family.
Everyone's excited about that, but then you add the fact that every day Wayne Gretzky is going to be our coach -that's pretty special.
Everyone's disappointed that they just don't get to be around him every day. His credentials and his character are very unique. He was fun to be around.
It was huge, obviously. There's a lot of emotion in a home opener, and you want to come out controlled, work hard and stay disciplined enough, and we stayed with it.
I had to apologize to a lot of people. I had to tell them I don't know what happened and that I'm sorry.
In America, nobody has any idea what Wayne is. If you took Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Derek Jeter, Brett Favre and kind of put them all into one, that type of following would almost be the same as what Wayne has in Canada.
It's disappointing. You have a chance at home to make a stand and we haven't done that.
It was nice to contribute in that game and being to play in that whole World Cup is something I'll never, ever forget. But they're going to pick the best team they think has the best chance to win and they've had a pretty good success of doing that at this point.
Tonight I think we picked up our desperation and urgency. We need to do that, or else we were going to be in trouble.
We had some big goals to keep tying it up, but we needed to find a way to get that lift and to get the one to get the lead. We never managed to get the lead.
To get momentum like that is huge. We've got to find a way to keep it going. We've let it slip away too many times.
You grow up playing five games in three days in tournaments. It's like going back to peewee hockey again.
The way they move the puck is fun to watch,
That's no fun to miss the playoffs. The World Championships was great, but you want to play in the playoffs. That's why you play the 82 games, so to go home early is no fun. Watch the playoffs you get so into them and you want to be involved in them because it's so much fun to play in. To not be able to play in the postseason is really tough to take.
