cut gaps guys key line matter needed offensive running trying
Guys weren't in their gaps because they were trying to do more than they needed to or they flat-out got cut off, and that can't happen. It doesn't matter who the running back is, it doesn't matter who the offensive line is, you just can't give up the yardage in key situations.
against beat believe continues couple develop develops duty guy job man matching tough
What I see is a guy who is matching up against a No. 1 receiver. It's a tough duty, and we know it. We believe in him, and we believe the young man can get the job done. Unfortunately, he got beat on a couple of plays. As he develops and continues to develop as a young corner, he'll get better with his technique.
counted group guys needing second stepping
Some of the guys we counted on stepping up or needing to step up really didn't show up, and that was disappointing. We can't have that kind of drop-off between the first group and second group.
anytime eight exactly great guys happen needed played sure tried understood weeks wonder
Anytime you don't play well, you wonder if something is wrong. But at the same time, you also have to say, 'We've played well eight weeks in a row.' Every now and then, you're going to have a letdown. You just can't let it become a big thing. We tried to make sure guys understood those things do happen and that we needed them back, needed a great effort, and that's exactly what they gave.
awful brian credit gets great mike passion reminds student studies watches work
Their passion, their passion for perfection. I don't think Brian gets enough credit for his work ethic. Here's a young man, when he watches film, he studies the film. He reminds me an awful lot of Mike in that respect, because Mike really was a great student of the game.
hit safety
I hit for the cycle. I got a D-lineman, I got a linebacker, I got a safety and I got a corner.
conversation enjoyed guess happy wait
I really enjoyed the conversation with Mr. (John) Shaw and Mr. (Jay) Zygmunt. I'm just really happy for the opportunity, and if anything else comes about, it'd be great. ... I guess the only thing I can do is just wait and see what happens.
continue deserves eventually guy happen happy hard personal plays works
I'm very happy for him on a personal level. He's a guy who works hard constantly. He deserves big plays to happen to him. If you continue to work, eventually you're going to get something big.
expected situation
In a situation like that, I would have never expected him to stumble.
certainly coach reminded smith stopped telling
I'm telling you, he said that. Wade reminded us of it and we all kind of chuckled about it. He never stopped believing. You look at those things and the things that coach Smith has done for us this year, and you most certainly have to say he is coach of the year.
calls carefully phone point start stuff
I'm at the point when the phone calls come and the preparation is made, all of that stuff will be thought out very carefully before I start making those decisions.
capable comfort good knowing players result terms veteran
I don't know if that's the result or the reasoning, but I do know that when you've got your veteran players out there there's a little more sense of comfort in terms of just knowing that they're capable of doing some good things for you.
knows
He's very savvy. He knows how to play the game.
count few game knows player supposed
He's not the most spectacular player on the field. He's just very dependable. He knows the game so well. He does everything he's supposed to do and a few things you don't count on him to do.
