Maybe, I'm the Grim Reaper, ... I miss a start and we scored 10 runs.
Right now, I don't see myself playing. I'm not going to start the season with anyone. I made my mind up. And when I do shut it down, I'll be walking away with a smile on my face. There will be no regrets, because I feel like I've done it the right way.
Where do you start in a game like this?
You remember the first one though. I ponder to myself that this could be my last couple of starts or the last one.
There will be a week I get up and I feel like I can do it again and then the next week, I don't want to get out in the outfield and start running those poles and doing those things. If last year's World Series was it for me, I'm more than happy. I know we didn't reach our ultimate goal, but it was a lot of fun. I have a lot to think about.
This is spring-training mode, even though I think for us, man to man, it's a little more meaningful. As the days pass and progress, I think guys will start to get a little more serious.
I just go to the ballpark and watch as the media buzz around me. Especially if the Red Sox are playing. I hang out on the field before the game. I visit the clubhouses. The rumors start flying like base hits off one of those South African pitchers we faced in the World Baseball Classic. Good times.
I ponder to myself, this could be my last couple of starts or your last one. I'm trying to get everybody in here that wants to be a part of this and really share it with everyone. I never want to look back.
I'm just going to treat it all week, ... My next outing is Friday on the road (at Milwaukee). So I'll start (today) rehabbing and getting ready to go again.
We tried to encourage him on many occasions to come out and work with us. He was a big-bodied kid. It was a lot of fun when he started showing up in the mornings, working with us. We had fun and got to know him better.
We were like two tired old men walking out of the tunnel, and then we were like two kids having a good time. We were holding each other up.
When I step away from the game, our game is in good hands. We have some good, young talented players, everyday guys, and definitely pitchers. He's right there at the top of the list. You feel you pass the baton along to the next generation of guys. I think the fans out here will enjoy this kid for a long time.
