I always wrote poetry as a teenager and it was always so dark, but it made me feel good to get it out.
When I'm on tour, I'm in really good shape. When I get home, I cook, I eat, I get fat and happy.
I know my strong points: I work hard, I have talent, I'm funny, and I'm a good person.
If you spend the first 30 years of your life only trying to look good, you're not going to know yourself very well. If you got it, flaunt it.
I'd like to be seen as a normal, attractive person with good values.
I love to get to that place where I don't know what kind of music I'm doing; I don't know if it's any good. I don't know if it's anything. It's a big question mark. The idea is to have interesting results. That's my bottom line.
I had a very active inner life as a kid. There's a good album or two worth of stuff that I can bring out on a rainy day if I have a loss for inspiration or whatever - even now.
The ideal is to live forever, right? Or to live right now and just be grateful that I feel good. I'm definitely grateful for every second that I'm alive. At this point in my life, I definitely take time out throughout the day to just stop and be like, "Everything is cool." It's as good as it's gonna be, because it only gets worse.
I definitely don't feel a sense of jealousy or competition, and that's a really good feeling.
For me, there is only love and fear.
I read all the time. I love it. My fantasy would be to be locked into a library. I'd be very, very happy.
I wanted to do it my way with my career, and I had this arrogant notion that people weren't just interested in my music but me as a person. That was my bit of arrogance, I guess. That's something I learned from Madonna. I was a fan right from the first time I heard 'Holiday.'
I was brought up to question authority, and thank God for that.
My mom took all of my behavior personally. Everything I did, she thought it was an act of rebellion against her. But it was just me being me.
