Paul Byrd
Paul Byrd
Paul Gregory Byrdis an American former professional baseball right-handed starting pitcher. He pitched in Major League Baseball from 1995 to 2009. He is known, perhaps ironically, as being the "nicest guy in baseball". eight team
I wanted to give our team at least seven, eight innings,
bigger
I wanted to be with a winner. That was more important than getting a bigger contract.
tell us where to play and we'll be there.
fifth fourth guys needed plays until
See, I needed that. I don't know if you noticed, but I didn't get my first strikeout until the fourth or fifth inning. I need guys to make plays for me out there.
couple glad good locker mood pitch
The mood was up in the locker room, which was nice. We've had a couple of red-eye flights. I think we were a little delirious, so we were kind of happy. I was glad to go out there and give us a good performance. I wanted to pitch a lot of innings.
granted
That's not us. If you take things for granted in this game, you're done.
earn gonna happen pride
That's not something that's gonna happen a lot with me. I pride myself on making you earn first base.
balls behind contact defense definitely fly ground
That's me, contact all over the place. Ground balls, fly balls, that's my game. More times than not, I'll take that. I'll definitely take that with the defense I have behind me here.
appreciate few games picked teammates
You're only going to get games like that a few times a year. I appreciate the way my teammates picked me up.
attitude fallen team
Mentally, we could have fallen apart, but this team doesn't do that. We could have had the attitude that we're snake-bit, but we didn't.
good jason played reasons signed team tone
One of the reasons I signed here was because of the way this team played on defense. Jason set the tone with some good catches.
chance chills cleveland drafted finally mark pitch signed suit talked
When I signed here, Mark and I talked about how I'd finally be able to pitch for him and the Indians. Someone said, 'He was drafted by Cleveland 15 years ago, and he's finally going to get a chance to suit up for that team.' I kind of got the chills when I read that.
came execution few plays situation
It came down to a few plays of execution. We were able to execute. It's not a situation where they failed. We just executed well.
liked offense threw
I threw OK. I would have liked to get more innings, but our offense showed what it can do.
