Patrick Angel Valenzuelais an American thoroughbred horse racing jockey. Born into a racing family, his father plus three of his uncles, including Ismael Valenzuela, were jockeys. He rode his first career winner on November 10, 1978, at Sunland Park Racetrack in Sunland Park, New Mexico. In 1980, 17-year-old Pat Valenzuela became the youngest jockey to ever win the Santa Anita Derby. He was voted the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award by his peers in 1982...

He just had a brutal trip. It took me about ten wide, so I lost a lot of ground there, but he still ran a great race. He was the best horse. He's a real nice horse. He should have won.

He just fell apart the last 20 yards. He lost his air. I was concerned about him. I didn't know if he was hurt or not, but I didn't want any weight on him if he was.

I just think Lava Man ran a very big race today. We just got outrun. We had a pretty moderate pace going. I tried to hold my advantage the whole way. I tried to edge away from Lava Man at the three-eighths pole, and I couldn't do it.

He ran a great race. He's a perfect three for three and getting better and better. Pablo and Doug have been big supporters of me, and it's so nice to win one like this for them.
