Nhat Hanh
Thích Nhất Hạnh; born as Nguyen Xuan Bao on October 11, 1926) is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist. He lives in Plum Village in the Dordogne region in the south of France, travelling internationally to give retreats and talks. He coined the term "Engaged Buddhism" in his book Vietnam: Lotus in a Sea of Fire. A long-term exile, he was given permission to make his first return trip to Vietnam in 2005...

People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.
Enlightenment is always there. Small enlightenment will bring great enlightenment. If you breathe in and are aware that you are alive - that you can touch the miracle of being alive - then that is a kind of enlightenment.
In the moment when we are able to smile, to look at ourselves with compassion, our world begins to change.
Each moment you are alive is a gem. It needs you to breathe gently for the miracles to be displayed.
Anxiety, the illness of our time, comes primarily from our inability to dwell in the present moment.

With the fork in my hand, I will be thinking about what to do next, and the texture and flavor of the dessert, together with the pleasure of eating it, will be lost. I will always be dragged into the future, never able to live in the present moment.
